On 3 May at the Tri-District Rotary Conference at Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, I selected a small fern (Gossamer Wattle) from the Greenbrand stall. This little fern was then nurtured carefully during its meandering trek back to Cairns in our vehicle from Burleigh Heads via Toowoomba, Hervey Bay, Yeppoon, Mackay and Townsville. My wife, Lorraine, then cared for it as it slowly grew in its pot while we waited for the ideal time to plant it. Finally, the day arrived! On 30 September, the Gossamer Wattle was planted in Riverlily Grove amongst other plants. Over time, it will bloom and blossom contributing to the myriad of colour of Riverlily Grove (a community green beautification project that has transformed a bare rockface). We will monitor its progress and update throughout the coming months.
