I helped move a koala away from a very dangerous situation! Sadly, wildlife volunteers really are undervalued by so many today despite all the hard work they do. I was invited to spend an hour "tree-sitting" from 7pm, which is monitoring a koala in a dangerous situation, and if possible, safely capture and release in a better place. The cars were racing past at 70km+ per hour along Kessels Road and if she went on that road she'd have died like two others recently. 4.5 hours later she'd come down the tree, been caught, had a quick health check to rule out chlamydia infection and injuries, and was released in bushland deep in the Griffith University grounds. I got home at midnight and slept soundly knowing I'd helped rescue the koala from a likely fate of being killed by a car which happens on a regularly in Brisbane. Two had died in the same area in the past 2 months.
