I mentored the first of EPIC Pathways Program days for the year. We focused on building confidence and helping young First Nations students to find pathways for their future and develop the skills to reach these goals. I learnt more about their culture and I was even challenged myself to understand what type of leader I am.

EPIC pathways helps connect First Nations peoples with pathways to their future and focuses on leadership and building supportive communities. Today was the planning day for the two program days coming up in the next week. We met the team and learnt about our role and how we will be involved over the program days.

Someone Who Cares were missing some of their regular volunteers today so we went down to give Patricia a hand to fold and package all the linens for donation to Papua New Guinea. Great to go back!

This morning I assisted Jack with numbers and participated in the Middle J, B flat, and Houses Bushcare. We were weeding along the path by the river, it was great to see so many people come along!

Tonight we attended another Toowong Rotary meeting and heard from Cameron, the owner the Greenbrand. It was great to see everyone again and support Cameron’s presentation with giving the insight of Kings.

On Sunday, I helped to organise and attended the opt-in Meiers Rd bushcare session with Women’s College. We communicated with Maddy, the Women’s community executive, so the day ran smoothly and all the girls who were trying bushcare for the first time felt comfortable. It was a great turn out and it was so nice to see everyone getting involved and meeting some new people from another college.

Today we went back to Someone Who Cares to pack medical supplies going to Mt Hagen in PNG. It was nice to hear personal stories from the rotarians about how they have seen the impact the medical supplies can have on a community in need. Whilst it was a long day, it is always rewarding taking part in the rotary initiatives!

After onboarding all first year students onto Greenbrand, we helped to set up dining chairs ready for a formal dinner. This helped college staff during a busy time and was the perfect example of service that can be recorded on Greenbrand!

Last week Stefi and I helped organise and run the Reds 50/50 with Youngcare volunteer session. This included conversing with Ben and Andrew beforehand and making sure we had an appropriate number of volunteers show up on time and prepared. It was great to work with 50/50 again and we are excited for the next game to volunteer again!

Tonight was our induction into Toowong Rotary club. We are so excited to continue the connection between King’s and the Rotary Club as we thoroughly enjoyed our involved in the club, their meeting as well as their initiatives last year. We hope to attend meetings frequently to stay up to date with what is going on in the community and ways we can involve ourselves and King’s College in service to others.

On Sunday, Stefi and I ran Clean up Australia Day for King’s! We were so excited to have close to 60 people come down to support us and to clean up our local environment. It was a great morning and a HUGE improvement from last year. We hope this motivation continues throughout the year so we can keep working to give back and make a larger difference in the broader King’s community. Thank you to everyone who came along, we really appreciate it!

As a part of P week we did an early morning bushcare session with Jack Wade. It was really helpful to learn the layout of the areas we will be working on this year to help us get prepared to assist Jack when I participate in Bushcare with the first years on my flat.

Tonight we went along again to the Toowong Rotary members meeting. We got to hear about Len Hepburn’s personal profile and his involvement in Rotary which was very interesting and I even won the raffle!
